Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement

Discover Newton Abbot – Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking Statement

This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps taken by Discover Newton Abbot (“we”, “our”, “us”) to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our organisation and supply chains.

1. Our Commitment

Discover Newton Abbot is committed to conducting business ethically, responsibly, and transparently. We oppose all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, child labour, and human trafficking.

We recognise our responsibility to take a robust approach to ensuring that slavery and human trafficking have no place in our business operations or those of our partners.

2. Our Organisation & Activities

Discover Newton Abbot operates a community and business-focused platform that promotes local events, businesses, and opportunities in Newton Abbot and the surrounding area.

Although our direct activities and supply chains are relatively low risk, we remain vigilant and committed to maintaining ethical practices.

3. Supply Chains

Our supply chains primarily include:

  • Local service providers (e.g. design, IT, marketing, and event support).

  • Contractors and suppliers of promotional materials.

  • Professional services (e.g. accounting, legal, business support).

We aim to work only with suppliers and partners who share our values and uphold fair labour practices.

4. Policies & Procedures

We have implemented the following measures to help prevent modern slavery:

  • Supplier standards – requiring suppliers and partners to comply with all applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws.

  • Ethical procurement – reviewing suppliers to ensure they operate responsibly and ethically.

  • Whistleblowing – providing a channel for concerns about unethical behaviour, including modern slavery.

  • Due diligence – considering modern slavery risks in the selection of suppliers and partners.

5. Training & Awareness

We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery and ensuring that staff and volunteers understand the risks and warning signs.

Training and resources will be provided where appropriate to support this awareness.

6. Ongoing Review

We will regularly review our practices and supply chains to assess and mitigate risks of modern slavery. Where improvements are identified, we will take action promptly.

7. Approval

This statement has been approved by the project team and will be reviewed.
